Konuşma Metni

I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.
All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the worlds abundant, pure, and blessed praise in every state and condition.
And at all times, as befits the majesty of His Countenance and the greatness of His sovereignty.
And blessings and peace be upon our master Muhammad, and upon his family and his companions.
And upon all those who follow him with excellence.
As for what follows:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
Fear Allah and act justly between your children.
Or as narrated by Al-Tabarani:
“Fear Allah and act justly between your children, just as you love for them to be dutiful to you.”
The Messenger of Allah has spoken the truth in what he said — or as he said.
According to what has been narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and by Al-Tabarani:
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said in his noble hadiths:
“Fear Allah and be just among your children! Treat your children with justice…
and within equal measures, fulfill your duty as a mother and father!”
“Do not incline too much toward one, favoring, protecting, and loving him, while leaving the other aside!
Be just and balanced in love and generosity, in the way Allah has commanded. Act in the manner recommended by the Messenger of Allah!”
Even in showing affection and care, one should strive to act equally.
You may love one; the other withdraws to the side by the wall, watching only from the corner of his eye,
and becomes emotionally disturbed.
“My father loves my sibling but does not love me!..”
Then you must immediately show love to him as well:
“Come here! Why have you stayed over there like that; oh, your cheeks are like apples…”
You should immediately win over his heart as well. If you give something to one, you should also give to the other;
if you donate a field to one, you should also donate to the other!
Most often, in villages there are grievances between parents and children.
Disputes arise between siblings because there is unfair treatment. A parent loves one child, favors them excessively, and gives less to another child whom they love less.
From this, resentment and estrangement arise.
“You gave less, you gave more, you gave the crooked side instead of the straight side…”because of such matters, children become resentful toward their parents over property and possessions,
and siblings also become resentful toward one another.
Inheritance division!
“Come on, go ahead, you choose first—take whatever you want!”
“Should I take this one, I wonder… or should I take that one, I wonder…”
He raises his eyebrow, turns it over in his mind, scratches the back of his neck:
“Let me take this one,’ he says.”
Alright. He goes home in the evening, and comes back in the morning:
“I’ve given up on that one; I will take the other one instead.”
My goodness! And then resentment follows…
“My mother gave him a lot and gave me little…”and so on.
The solution to this is to be just!
Whoever has come up with it has found an easy way of being fair:
For example, there will be an inheritance division. They tell one person:
“You divide the inheritance and the property. You will do the division; but the first right to choose belongs to the other person!”
This time, the one doing the division makes every effort to act justly.
Because if he divides it unfairly or in an unbalanced way, the other person will end up taking it.
Out of fear, he pays attention to justice.
This is also a good method, a good solution!
But one should also be generous in spirit and not covetous. In the end, it will go to his brother anyway; he is not a stranger. One should say: let it go to him in abundance.
When it is said like this, there will be blessing and goodness. It is necessary to explain and teach this to siblings. When they argue saying, “You gave to him but didn’t give to me…”, it is necessary to teach them.
It is necessary to teach them to be somewhat content, big-hearted, satisfied, and of good character. My late mother used to tell me:
There were two brothers. They had ploughed a field together.
They had harvested the crop together, winnowed the straw, chaff, and wheat together. One of them was married, the other was single.
They had a cart. They did everything jointly.
They immediately divided the goods and the wheat: this much wheat, and this much straw! The straw is also needed.
All winter long, the animals will eat straw!
They divided it equally. One of them loads the wheat onto a cart and takes it to his own home and granary. He would take the cart, fill it, and…
take the wheat to his home. The one left behind would say:“My elder brother is married; he has a wife and children.
I am single; his need is greater, mine is less. We divided it equally, but his need is greater.
Without him knowing, let me give him a little from mine.”
He would give him some of his wheat and straw.
When the cart returned empty, it was his turn. He would load the cart and take the wheat to his own granary.
This time his elder brother would say:
“This is my younger brother; he will still get married, he has wedding expenses.
He needs money; he needs a bit more wheat…”
He would, from his own side and without the other noticing, transfer wheat to his brother’s share.
By continually carrying wheat and straw back and forth, they could not finish it! Because Allah had placed blessing in it,
and He had granted blessing because of their mutual affection!
When Allah places blessing in something, it never runs out! The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, fed more than three hundred people with a very small amount of food meant for seven or eight people.
During the Battle of the Trench (Battle of the Trench), the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) experienced a miracle. He has many miracles!
When there is blessing, it never ends; when there is no blessing, no one knows where it went!
“There was so much of it—where did it all go?..”
Where would it go? Because it lacked blessing, it was taken away—there is nothing else to say!..
When there is no blessing, it disappears; when there is blessing, it increases!
Wealth is the same! If you give its zakat, it increases — it increases even though you give from it!
When you cut and prune the branches of a tree, does its fruit become more or less?
When you prune it, it produces more. You feel pity for the tree and do not prune it;
that year, there is no harvest!
In our garden in Yalova, they took the saws in their hands. At first;
“There are fifty old apple trees here; let us cut them down, hodja,” they said.
“No way!” I said. It pains me deeply — how could one cut down a tree?..
“Fifty trees, of many different kinds!..
“Don’t cut them!” I said.
“Let us prune them,” they said, and they pruned them heavily…
My Allah! Such wonderful Yalova apple grew large and beautiful… Friends would come and say:
“We went to your orchard, teacher; please forgive us we ate some of the apples…”
“Enjoy it. Praise be to Allah, He has provided it.”
I brought ninety walnuts from Kaman.
The Kaman walnut is large like an egg and has a thin shell.
It is not a hard-to-crack walnut. It didn’t take, it didn’t grow; we couldn’t care for the saplings properly. It needs care and attention.
You will be hardworking; you will be like fire—you will not stop.
If you become lazy, it doesn’t work. The more you work the soil, the more productive it becomes.
The more you take care of the sapling, open up its roots, and give it water, the better it grows.
Likewise, if you give the zakat of your wealth and give charity from it, it becomes fruitful and blessed!
“Teacher! Praise be to Allah, I give all my charity and zakat.”
Also, if you perform good deeds and charity, Allah multiplies it many times over. He makes your affairs go smoothly in a way that cannot be described!
There is a friend in Sweden; a person of goodness, from among our companions.
A dear brother whom I love.
He put his house up for sale last year, and they offered 300–400 thousand krona for it.
The currency of Sweden is the krona. He did not sell it. He has a nice apartment.
He has a spacious, airy, and beautiful apartment in a building.
He didn’t sell it. This year he sold it for over 900,000. He is overjoyed!
“This is the blessing of good deeds and charity,” I said.
When there is blessing, this is what happens!
When there is no blessing, everything goes upside down!
He withholds his zakat thinking, “Let my money not decrease,” but then Allah brings a calamity upon him!..
Sometimes the disaster is rain, sometimes hail, sometimes fire, sometimes an earthquake, sometimes a party’!
A bad-luck party comes into power; it starts making decisions,
from where you stand, your company’s capital is losing value and dropping.
You go from being able to buy 100 refrigerators to only being able to afford 30.
You don’t even know what’s happening!
What will happen!
A misfortunate, ill-omened, and harmful politician came to power.
Because of him—thieving, shameless, impudent, ill-mannered, irreligious, and faithless.
It doesn’t rain. Allah withholds the rain. Rain comes with blessing.
He withholds the rain, and no water remains in the lakes. Then when devout people come, the lakes and dams fill up, and goodness follows goodness.
This is what blessing and lack of blessing look like! There are many examples!
When I was an assistant at the university, I know from my own salary:
I don’t even really know my salary!
“How much is your salary?”
Honestly, it’s this much—something approximate!
People calculate every last kuruş. Then they even argue with the accountant:
“You applied tax at this-and-that percentage and reduced it by this much…
According to my calculation, it should be like this…”
I don’t understand such things at all. I just put my salary in my pocket and say, may Allah bless it. Then they come:
“Teacher, we’re going to the village. We don’t have money for the road—could you lend us some?
I’m really in a tight spot, teacher…”
The employee realizes it’s true—he is indeed in a difficult situation.
“Take it.”
I can’t finish my money by the end of the month.
The civil servant’s salary—what width, what length, what substance, what weight does it really have?..
My salary never runs out! I even forget the money I lend to others.
After some time, someone comes and says:
“Teacher, take this money.”
“Hopefully there is nothing wrong—what money is this?”
“It’s your money.”
“How is it my money?”
“I had borrowed money from you at such-and-such time.”
“Oh really? Do you remember it well? I don’t remember.”
“I remember, I remember, teacher—take it…”
I forget it. I don’t keep accounts; I forget how much it is.
Then they bring it back and give it to me.
Blessing!
Is there something called blessing?
There is, we believe and affirm it! I know it so certainly that there is no doubt at all!
Allah tests in such a way that the Almighty God;
“Let’s see how My servant will behave in the test,” and He watches and observes!
He gives more to the one who gives, and takes from the one who does not give!
One of the clearest examples:
So many places were destroyed in Adapazarı. I called one of our pilgrim friends:
“Teacher, my house is solid and my shop is also intact,” he said.
The apartment buildings behind him were all destroyed, yet his building was still standing!
The pilgrim brother, white-bearded, blessed, and lovable, came to me and said:
“Teacher, I love the Kaaba very much.”
“Well, I love it too—so what are we going to do now?”
He was crying, a kind-hearted person.
We both love the same thing—what shall we do?
It can be loved. Things like this can be loved together. But if it were a woman, people would end up at each other’s throats:
I also love her; if you love her too, then the guns start speaking!
But when it comes to the Kaaba, things change… A father’s old friend gave advice:
“Come here, my nephew, I was a friend of your father. I heard you promised a lot of money to the Hakyol Foundation last night. What is this extravagance?!” he said.
He also knows that charity is not extravagance; he is someone who understands the matter of blessing. He said: “Uncle, yes, you are my father’s friend. You know my father passed away.
“Life is transient, death is a truth; it comes suddenly…
We must give help, that’s why I am doing it,” he said.
Immediately offended by those words, he said:
“Don’t threaten me with death!”
“No, I am only telling the truth. There is no threat; this is reality!”
He himself is telling this—a pilgrim who knows the meaning of blessing:
“Teacher, he had a valuable plot of land right in the center of the city, near the provincial offices,
its value was beyond what numbers could express.
He was going to build a business center there and would have made enormous profits.
Then the municipality expropriated it…”
Shortly after saying those words, the municipality went ahead and expropriated that valuable land.
Do municipalities in Türkiye carry out expropriation?
Yes, they do.
Can you avoid it by objecting?
Its value was beyond what numbers could express.
a person’s property goes with a loud crash.
Does it go at its real value, at its market value?
No!
In Türkiye, market value and all of that is just talk; it goes at the price you declare in the official statement.
Since people declare lower values in the declaration in order to pay less tax;
“You declared its price as this amount,” they say,
and then they put that amount of money into their hands. The person who advises someone doing good, saying “don’t do it,” is ruined! What is this?
Divine manifestation!
What does ‘Cilve-i Rabbânî’ mean?
It is the unfolding of destiny; Allah, the Almighty, makes events happen in this way.
And they planned, and Allah planned. “They devised a scheme, and Allah also devised a scheme!”
Allah Almighty, toward disbelievers, polytheists, hypocrites, and those with weak faith,
we should all be afraid of His plan/decree (mysterious divine dealing).
What does ‘makr’ mean?
It means: showing the right hand but striking with the left; giving respite and then suddenly seizing.
He finds the opportunity to commit the sin and does it. And he also pricks up his ears like a fox;
“Wow! I’m committing sin and nothing is happening. Keep going… still nothing is happening…”
A divine strike suddenly comes, a great disaster befalls him,
Allah Almighty suddenly seizes him… and it is over.
What do you call this?
This is called divine plan (makkar-i ilāhī).
You must not be deceived; you must conduct yourself with proper manners and be a good servant of Allah.
My respected brothers!
Whoever understands Islam understands; whoever does not understand burns.
He burns both in this world and in the Hereafter. Those who read the verses and hadiths know these divine truths.
Because our Prophet clearly explains and openly states them.
Muslims know this! Whoever understands it understands, and whoever acts accordingly succeeds.
The pilgrim does good deeds and earns even more. A pilgrim’s affairs go more smoothly and successfully.
“Goodness gracious! I am so clever and sharp-witted that sometimes I even outsmart the devil,
I even confuse right with left and left with right, I even deceive the devil himself…
Even with all this cleverness, this and that still happened…”
Of course it happens that way!
He plays games on the stock market and earns ill-gotten money.
That ill-begotten money takes away a large part of his capital as well.
What is gained for free goes away for free.
I was in a tight situation; I went and borrowed money from the pension fund in Ankara.
The pension fund is a fund formed from deductions taken from us civil servants.
It is also stated in the fund’s regulations. It can lend its members up to the amount of two months salary.
I needed money, so I took this money as well.
I did not benefit from the money I took; I ended up giving back more, because it involves interest.
When they give the loan, they immediately deduct the interest from it—it’s interest-based money! Anything involving interest does not bring benefit.
I did not benefit from it! I take a loan because I am in need…
You must be patient and not get involved in interest!
Praise be to Allah; the goodness and blessing of being free from interest and not engaging in interest-based transactions.
I have seen this both in Türkiye and here.
May Allah grant us the understanding of blessing and enable us to carry out every deed in accordance with His pleasure.

Where did all of this come from?
It came from justice, from treating children equally, from being fair.
A Muslim is just. He is so just that treating his children equally is one thing,
and he acts with justice even if it is against his own interests.
Even if it is against his parents, he acts with justice.
“If you act like this, your mother and father will be harmed…”
“Allah commands it like this”
Allah: Even against yourselves, or your parents and close relatives…
“‘Even if it is against yourselves, or against your parents or your relatives, establish justice!’ He says.”
He commands justice even if it is against one’s own self!
“But if I act justly now, I’ll lose my property…”
If it goes, let it go—justice is justice. Otherwise it becomes injustice. Try practicing justice like that.
When you act with justice, good comes of it! And at the end of that good…
Allah first makes it seem as if He is taking away a person’s property; the person’s heart burns, and a sense of anguish arises.
Doing good is so difficult that the devil says: “Are you crazy? Do not do this charity with the money you earned through all that effort!” he comes many times saying.
And then he prevents him from doing it. But despite all of this, if you still do it, Allah makes up for it and gives even more! He gives even more—He certainly gives more! We have seen many examples of this.
As a university professor, I have come to possess wealth and property that I would not otherwise have been able to obtain.
Why? I bought a place with a small amount of money, and it suddenly became very valuable.
Eight or ten of us jointly bought a plot of land. It was divided, and I also got a share.
They gave us the worst ones. They gave the worst shares to me and my brother Mithat.
The other friends took the best part of the land.
He said: “If you give me that nice part, I’ll add that much share and put money into the pot.”
I said: Let me take the one next to him, so I’ll be next to my father, etc.
When everyone started taking the nicer ones,
My brother Mithat stepped aside and said:
“You all take them, let us have whatever is left.”
My brother has such dervish-like manners. Then he came to me:
“Esad! Take the upper plot, because the lower one is connected with external neighbors.
They might cause you trouble. You are a scholar; you cannot deal with such worldly matters—take the upper one,” he said.
The upper one was 100 square meters larger. One was 1350 square meters, the other was 1450 square meters!
People are calculating even by handspan!
“Let most of it be yours, Esad,” he said.
We went. A building was to be constructed, and a contractor had shown interest in our land. My brother said:
“Esad, let’s give the plots to the contractor.”
“Brother, I don’t want to.”
I will give my own land to the contractor, and the contractor will own a share of it.
I will live on my own land.
After I retire, I will build a house on my own land and live in a place with a view and clean air.
A 1450-square-meter plot is not a small thing in Türkiye; it’s something valuable and nice!
“No, you can’t build a house or anything like that,” he said.
“That’s right—what can a civil servant do? It’s not possible for me to do it!”
“You can’t do it. Let’s give this to a contractor,” he said. “Alright, brother,” I said.
The elder brother is like a father and deserves respect; he should be treated with honor. Older brothers also have their own merit.
“Alright, brother.”
The signature, the power of attorney, etc., were given to the contractor.
“How will I build the house?”
“I don’t know, do whatever you want!”
“Will you live in it or sell it?”
It will be sold; we are not involved at all. We don’t even know where the land is, nor the house!
We bought it at a very good price, and it turned into this situation. We know nothing about it. Then my wife said:
“Since it’s supposedly our house, come on, let’s go and see it.”
Women tend to think a bit more carefully; we are more naïve.
We are naive; women think about such things better.
“Let’s go see it,” she said.
“What will you do?” I asked.
“Maybe we’ll like it and move in,” she said.
“We can’t live there. That’s a recreational area—a place for weekend strolls!
People come there to the meadows and greenery; drums and zurna, entertainment, drinking…
“We can’t live there,” I said.
“No, let’s go and see,” she said.
Oh dear!
We went, and when we saw it—it was like a palace! A palace—painted pink, and they had also added pink and gray bands.
They were such beautiful houses—triplex, three-story detached homes.
The contractor built it and didn’t ask me for any money.
Half of the land and property becomes his as his payment.
One apartment is 395 square meters! Praise be to Allah—it’s like a dream!
Pinch your leg and see whether you are dreaming or awake—realize your situation!
The pilgrim’s wife said:
“Let’s live here.”
“Come on, my wife, I am a retired professor;
if we live in this house, we won’t even be able to pay the heating bill from our salary…”
“No, let’s live here,” she said.
And we did move in!
I’m saying, on top of my land…
Allah suddenly dropped two mansions from the sky, and they didn’t even have a crack or a flaw!
Four houses came out on our land.
Because the ‘unfavorable’ plots were long and had a larger area, they ended up being bigger than the others.
When Allah grants success, see how He makes everything go right! There are many examples of this!
I know Allah’s blessing and wisdom very well. Trust me!
I can explain it with examples and evidence. If you act justly, it becomes beautiful.
If you act with fairness…
If you act in accordance with Allah’s pleasure, even if it seems like you are losing or being deceived, you will actually gain.
Ancestors once said a proverb that is still widely repeated.
What did they say?
“In inheritance, the one who seems to be cheated is the one who actually wins!”
Being deceived and winning are opposites.
“In inheritance, the one who seems to be cheated is the one who actually wins!”
What is this based on? It is based on experience, and it is based on life.
They tried it. Whoever acts greedily—something happens—and in the end suffers the harm of their greed.
Allah addresses the one who has been deceived:
“My servant, were you deceived?
Because you were kind-hearted and gentle, and stayed quiet, did they deceive you?
Let me elevate you so they can see…” and He raises him in a way that the mind cannot comprehend.
A stepmother has taken the rights of three orphans, transferring all the property onto her own child.
She hid all the property from her stepdaughters and transferred everything onto her own biological daughter.
Her own biological daughter also died, and when she died, all the property—by law—automatically…
ended up falling to those three orphans.
And she was left completely penniless.
Do you see the slap? Allah strikes those who do injustice in such a way.
In the end of her life, she became miserable because of the injustice she had committed.
We will not depart from truth; we will not be afraid of generosity; we will not avoid charity and good deeds.
Because there is blessing!
Be just among your children and do not act unjustly! Always act with justice, and treat your children equally as well!
It was a matter that was on my mind, so I asked:
In inheritance, daughters receive half of what sons receive, In everyday life—while we are still alive and have children—how should it be handled?
“It is the same there as well,” he said.
I asked a professor named Abu’s-Sunna in Hanafi jurisprudence in Mecca:
How will it be in life?
“It is the same during one’s lifetime as well,” he said.
Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, a portion equal to that of two females.
When you pass away and your property is being divided among your children in inheritance…
the male receives a share equal to twice that of the female.
That is the share.
For example, if I have two daughters and one son, the property will be divided into two parts, and half will go to the son.
and the other half will go to the daughters.
Half and half—if this side takes P, the others will take percentages.
What about the wife’s share?
The wife’s share is also one-eighth. If there are children and the husband dies, the woman receives one-eighth.
These differ in civil law, but in the Qur’an it is like this!
But my wife:
“We will die together, we will go together,” she says. And we reply:
“May Allah grant a blessed long life.”
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
Fear Allah regarding the prayer; fear Allah regarding the prayer; fear Allah regarding the prayer.
Fear Allah concerning those whom your right hands possess; fear Allah concerning the two weak ones.
the widowed woman and the orphaned child.
From Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Fear Allah regarding the prayer, fear Allah regarding the prayer,
fear Allah regarding the prayer!”
He said it three times.
What does it mean?
“Pay attention to the prayer, pay attention to the prayer, pay attention to the prayer;”
it means: “Be careful with your prayer—perform your prayer!”
Meaning: “Fear Allah and do not abandon this prayer, do not neglect it, perform it properly, etc.”
Prayer is very important, very important, very important! “I am a Muslim, my heart is pure, we believe and we affirm! The Qur’an is above our heads,
but I cannot pray…”
Why can’t you pray?
You run like a laborer for forty-five minutes so that you can exercise and keep your body healthy,
you end up drenched in sweat.
You do it when it’s exercise, but when it comes to worship before Allah, you don’t do it—we can’t do it!
“We’re not used to it, or our schedule gets disrupted, or…”
Excuses! Let it get disrupted! Instead of wearing razor-creased trousers, wear jeans like Americans, Gain Allah’s pleasure, and let whatever happens happen!
Don’t you see the American? He wears jeans backed by dollars, and he puts his hand in his pocket,
and he walks around whistling.
If his pants get torn at the knee, he doesn’t care—it becomes a fashion trend.
If the hems get frayed, he doesn’t mind—it becomes fashionable.
American fashion! He walks around barefoot, and it becomes a trend… I saw people walking barefoot in Europe. In our place, even if you killed someone, you wouldn’t walk around barefoot!
“How can that be? What would people say about me?” he says.
They don’t say, “What would people say?”
“I do whatever I feel like doing.” they say.
You will perform the prayer; fear Allah regarding the prayer!
“Fear Allah regarding those whom your right hands possess.”
Do not oppress or treat servants or slaves unjustly either!
Do not oppress, beat, insult, belittle, or torture them; be just!
“Fear Allah concerning the two weak ones,
and uphold their rights as well!”
Who are these two weak ones?
The widowed woman. “Al-mar’ah al-armalah—a woman who has no husband.
Poor, helpless widowed woman—be mindful of her!” And the orphaned child.
“And also the orphaned child—he has no father!”
These two are vulnerable, and their rights must not be violated.
